Want to take a break from the gaming routine and catch up on some good movies instead? Here is our partially biased selection of movies for the casino lovers.
Films have a way of magnifying the truth and laying it on with the shovel, bypassing our logical seals. Some of them are purely exaggerated versions of reality to feed our hungry, drama-seeking souls.
If you are an avid casino player catching a casino related film, you must be all too familiar with the cringe-worthy, unrealistic scenes and perpetual stream of strategic wins which in no way depicts real life gambling scenarios.
Take for instance Craig in his debut as Bond, in all sleekness winning against Le Chiffre in one of the scenes from Casino Royale; something we all saw coming. With a title like Casino Royale, you would expect more climactic casino scenes or even a scheming win, but hey it’s a Bond movie not a film on poker.
Truth is, we still enjoy these movies and let our minds be open to the possibilities the gambling world has to offer. Also, who are we to judge the veracity of these movies? After all, the casino is a haven of odds and you’ll never know what happens next.
Here are our favourite guilty pleasures:
Featuring all the biggest stars; George Clooney, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle (the list goes on..) with a sharply devised robbery, you’ve got a winning formula for a blockbuster. We are convinced most of us have watched this, but it is just one of the movies you could watch again just to relive the good moments.
What excites us about this movie are the conflicting characters with different skills, fitting into Danny Ocean’s (George Clooney) cleverly premeditated casino heist in the biggest gambling city, Las Vegas.
We will watch this year after year, not so much for the suspense but the way these guys bring the suave into a large-scale heist.

21 is yet another brilliant heist movie but underrated in its genre. Just when you thought casinos are luck-driven entities, Kevin Spacey brings together a group of MIT grads into the house of luck playing with mathematics and probabilities.
Spacey plays a Statistics professor who provides after-school tutorials on card counting to ultimately win big in Las Vegas.
On the whole, this movie departs away from the usual glamour depicted in movies like Casino Royale and Ocean Eleven. Then again, who wouldn’t want to be a part of this underground Blackjack society?

Maverick eagerly wishes to enter a major poker tournament and the plot kicks off by his conniving ways to gather enough money for it. Mel Gibson is Maverick and he plays a sharp thinking conman caught in the trouble he started.
Based on the successful TV show of the same name, this one does not fail its predecessor to serve us good entertainment. In case you are looking for movies to watch online, give this adventurous action-comedy a shot.

Directed by Martin Scorsese, Casino bring outs the beauty and dirt of Las Vegas. It gives us a glimpse of Las Vegas in all its grandeur only to slowly bring down the façade to a much darker part of the city.
Robert De Niro pairs with Sharon Stone in this grim film about the reality of Vegas’ gambling industry and how quickly tables can be turned in the least favorable way.
If there is a quote from the movie to perfectly describe the greedy, power hungry characters; this would be it:
“In the casino, the cardinal rule is to keep them playing, and keep them coming back. The longer they play, the more they lose. In the end, we get it all”
For those who appreciate Scorsese’ narrative style in movies like Good Fellas and Taxi Driver, this is certainly not a movie to miss.

Gerry is played by the Australian actor Ben Mendelsohn, a divorced realtor struggling to make ends meet, hounded by loan sharks and above all with a gambling problem. He believes he may have found a way to turn his life back on track when he meets the ever charming Curtis (Ryan Reynolds).
As a result of that encounter, Gerry brings along Curtis, his supposedly lucky charm to win the highest stake in New Orleans. What progresses next, is a hilarious road trip with a misguided plan to win back the losses. This movie is slow-paced, filled with bromance drama, comedy and altogether a satisfying watch.
Rotten Tomatoes Rating: 91% IMDB Rating: 6.4/10
Everything that could go possibly wrong on a bachelor night in Vegas happens in this 100-minute movie. Waking up in a fancy suite with a Bengal tiger, a random baby and a missing groom, nobody seems to remember what happened the night before.
While not a movie directly focusing on the roulette table, it brilliantly passes of as another legendary Vegas trip stories. Inappropriate in all ways, unapologetically offensive and extremely funny, we didn’t want to let this one out of our list.
